Deadmau5 talks about Gear (Monome and Sidechain Compression)
I watched Joel make some beats the other night on StickAm. He has a webcam in his studio. It was very interesting to watch someone go through the steps of picking out a kick drum or working on a melody. I enjoyed watching him tweak his rack mount Moog Voyager and then layer it with delay and reverbs.
In the video, he talks about the Monome. I’m not sure the thing is all that useful in actuallity, but it gets people talking is very much a nerd toy. Side chaining compression is by far one of Deadmau5’s biggest tricks. It gives you the pump and whump that everyone loves about his beats, a push and a pull.
