CDJ 2000

The New Pioneer CDJ-2000

I like where Pioneer is going with this.  I like that you can share tracks across up to 4 players.   I’d like to see more on the Rekord Box software, but I’d have to assume its an itunes/serato/traktor design.  The large 6.1″ screen is great but having used both Serato and Trackor, I’d much rather use my mouse to navigate and search for tracks, but maybe after I use it, I’d get use to it.  I also love searching Serato by keywords/tags which I don’t see being done as easily via the CDJ-2000.  Its a huge step forward for CD players, but given the high cost, I’d say only mega clubs will be using these for the next few years. Even the big jocks won’t be able to count on having these at every gig unless you are Tiesto or something close to him.  I think most people will continue to use CDJ-1000s for normal everyday club use.  I love the native support for Traktor and Serato. Pioneer is the first company to offer plug-and-play compatibility with Serato, Traktor and MixVibes Cross and  I hope this is going to be a standard for all controllers in the near future.  The deck can also be used as as a MIDI controller, making it ideal for MP3 DJs who can program its 35 buttons to do anything they like. Samples, loops, effects: they can all be triggered by the control keys.  Look below for a video of James Zabiela using a CDJ-2000 to control his Ableton setup, very interesting stuff.
